As a result of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith moved to an online/distance-learning-only form of educational delivery beginning March 30, 2020.  In an effort to prevent potentially negative, educational outcomes for students, and in consultation with Student Government Association, Faculty Senate, and University Staff Council, UAFS Chancellor Terisa Riley approved offering an emergency Pass/Withdrawal grade option for students enrolled in full spring semester and second 8-week spring semester courses.
UAFS Chancellor, Dr. Terisa Riley, released an update Friday, March 27, 2020, reiterating the campus-wide move to remote instruction and launching a resource page for students.
As residents of the greater Fort Smith region struggle with restrictions prompted by the COVID-19 outbreak, several businesses owned by alumni of the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith are making changes to accommodate their customers.
After a weekend surge of positive cases of COVID-19 in Arkansas, faculty and administrators at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith banded together to help frontline medical teams and hospital staff stay prepared and protected. Monday morning, a small team gathered at the UAFS campus to collect, box, label, and load more than 100,000 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) for colleagues actively fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chancellor Terisa Riley announced Friday afternoon that as of March 30, 2020, all academic instruction at UAFS will be delivered remotely for the remainder of the semester. Additionally, the University of Arkansas System board of trustees voted unanimously to postpone commencement for all system institutions until at least June 1.
