A summit to discuss opioid abuse in the Fort Smith community will be held from 12:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. June 20 at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith that will include Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, state representatives, and representatives from local agencies.
The third time was the charm for Cody Johnston. The Fort Smith native and University of Arkansas – Fort Smith alumnus competed for a third time on the popular television show “American Ninja Warrior,” a competition in which contestants attempt to navigate an obstacle course quicker than their opponents. For the first time, his run made the cut to be televised on the show, which aired June 6.
Thanks to a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith will host an NEA Big Read in Fort Smith this year, a community reading program with activities centered around a select book that includes a visit from the author.
While Brooke Arnold of Hackett only had two classes left to graduate from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith after this spring semester, she began looking for a way to earn those credits without having to complete another 16-week semester as a working mother. Thanks to a change in Pell Grants this year that allow students additional grant monies for summer courses, she won’t have to.
Local children will have a slate of 15 summer camps to choose from throughout the season, with topics ranging from music to engineering to athletics.
