Lay Finds Purpose at UAFS, Lands Dream Career With Sigma Nu
As a high school sophomore weighing his options, Michael Lay had no intention of graduating college, a feat neither of his parents had yet completed. But thanks to a campus tour through the Upward Bound program, Lay fell in love with UAFS and began charting a course toward his future. 
School of Education Earns $1.8 Million Grant
The UAFS School of Education has earned a $1.8 million grant from the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education that will allow the university’s early childhood education (ECE) program to increase its free professional development offerings to Arkansas early childhood educators.
UAFS Undergrads Present Biomedical Research
Two undergraduate students from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith were honored with presenting their research at the 2019 conference of the Arkansas IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Oct. 26-27 at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Harmeet Kaur Chohan and Jeremiah Smith presented their findings to more than 400 students and faculty assembled at the conference.
Theatre@UAFS Claims 14 Awards at Festival
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith theatre program earned a wealth of accolades at the Arkansas State Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival earlier this month. Held at the University of the Ozarks Seay Theatre, the Theatre@UAFS company and crew for the shows "Side Man" and "Ghost Sonata" took home a whopping 14 awards, including excellence awards in virtually every facet of production and a half-dozen individual actor awards.

Board Approves Resolution for Naming of Gayle Kaundart Arena at UAFS Stubblefield Center
The court and seating area at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Stubblefield Center will soon bear the name “Gayle Kaundart Arena,” following the adoption of a resolution by the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees honoring the legendary basketball coach.
