UAFS Dental Hygiene Program to Offer Kids Dental Clinics
The Dental Hygiene program at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will sponsor free afterschool dental clinics Feb. 12 and March 12, 2019, for area children through the UAFS Smilz Kid’s Clinic. Preventive services offered by the clinic include a dental cleaning and exam, X-rays, fluoride treatments and sealants to prevent cavities. All dental hygiene services are provided by UAFS dental hygiene students under the supervision of UAFS dental hygiene faculty and staff.

NEA Big Read: Fort Smith Season of Events to Kick Off Feb 16. at UAFS
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will host a kickoff event for the 2019 NEA Big Read: Fort Smith, from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16, in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th St.
UAFS Student Uses Quest For Mental Health to Help Others
Attending the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is a vital part of Megan Sonnenmoser’s quest for mental health, and she wants her experience to help other students on campus as well.  Sonnenmoser, a 34-year-old history major from Kansas City, Mo., has battled mental health matters as long as she can remember. They impacted every aspect of her life, including her education. 
UAFS Announces Adult Degree Completion Program
A new program announced at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will help working adults earn a bachelor’s degree in an affordable, hands-on academic environment. The Adult Degree Completion Program will provide a streamlined educational pathway for students returning to school with 30 or more credit hours to pursue either a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership or a Bachelor of General Studies. Previous college experience does not have to correspond to those areas of study. Students also have the opportunity to receive class credit for prior working experience.
UAFS Career Services Center Readies Students for the Workplace
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Career Services center has been evolving alongside the university, growing with the needs of the campus community, to support career-readiness goals of its students.  Originally the Placement Department, Career Services was founded a short time after UAFS joined the University of Arkansas system in 2003, and has progressed to include the Babb Center for Student Professional Development, founded in 2015. 
Student Counseling Center Helps Students Succeed, Overcome.
In order to succeed, college students must overcome many obstacles, not the least of which involve mental health struggles. At the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, students have access to numerous mentors, trained support staff and an on-campus counseling clinic fully staffed with licensed professional and paraprofessional mental health care clinicians.
UAFS to Celebrate Homecoming Feb. 18-23
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has scheduled a slate of festivities the week of Feb. 18 in celebration of its annual Homecoming. The theme this year is Lions of the Galaxy.  “Homecoming is always an exciting week at UAFS,” said Stephanie London, director of student activities. “It’s a week of showing our lion pride through numerous events and competitions. We would love the community to join us, especially for our Saturday street fair and basketball games.”
UAFS Hosts MLK Breakfast, Panel Discussion
On Jan. 21 five influential leaders in the Fort Smith community discussed their various missions in alleviating poverty, hunger and homelessness in the River Valley during a panel discussion at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith moderated by Mayor George McGill.
UAFS to Hold Man vs. Machine Piano Duel March 1
Dr. Stephen Husarik, professor of humanities and music history at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, will duel with recordings of reproducing pianos in his lecture-performance “Capturing Art with Machines: Piano Players vs. Player Pianos.” The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday March 1, at the Breedlove Auditorium, located at 5120 Grand Ave.
