UAFS To Host Open Meet and Greets with Diversity Equity and Inclusion Candidates
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith will hold two public meet and greet events to introduce the Fort Smith community to each of the finalist candidates for the position of Executive Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion Thursday, March 5 and Thursday, March 12 on the UAFS campus. 
Halim Awarded Lucille Speakman Legacy Endowment Grant
On Monday, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith announced that assistant professor of chemistry Dr. Mohammad Halim will be awarded the fourth grant from the Lucille Speakman Legacy Endowment.
UAFS Partners with T.E.A.C.H. to Offer Affordable AAS Degree
Thanks to a partnership between the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith and the Teacher Education and Compensation Helps (TEACH) initiative, early childhood educators across Arkansas can earn their Associate of Applied Science degree from UAFS for as little as $77 a semester. 
Joel Stubblefield Named Honorary Alumni
Legendary chancellor Joel Stubblefield will be named an honorary alumni of UAFS during the Alumni Reunion Dinner February 29. The Alumni Advisory Council established the award in 2018 to recognize individuals who demonstrate their outstanding support of the university, showing they are Lions at heart.
Slamons Named Young Alumni Award Winner
Brittany Slamons, graduate of the class of 2009 has been awarded the 2020 Young Alumni Award. Her award will be presented at the Homecoming Alumni Reunion Dinner Feb. 29.

UAFS Rises for the River Valley
For the fifth year, students, faculty and staff of the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith joined with the United Way of the Fort Smith Area and the Crisis Intervention Center to host Rising in the River Valley. This annual Valentine’s Day event proclaims a local commitment to One Billion Rising’s global initiative to end sexual assault and domestic violence.
UAFS Theater to Host Fund-Raising Performance of Side Man, Feb. 16
heatre@UAFS will present a special performance of the award-winning production of “Side Man” at 7 p.m. Feb. 16, at the Alma Performing Arts Center. Proceeds from ticket sales will help enable UAFS theatre students to travel to Abilene, Texas, where they will compete at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival for Region 6, Feb. 23-28.
