Lion Launch Pad to Equip All STEM Students with iPads
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) has launched a college-wide digital learning initiative to support educational innovation for students. Beginning this fall the Lion Launch Pad program will equip all entering freshmen in the College of STEM, including students in the School of Education, with an iPad to enhance their abilities to learn, share and excel academically.
Thompson named Miss UAFS 2019
In a competition that awarded nearly $23,000 in scholarships and prizes among its 12 candidates, Allison Thompson claimed the crown of Miss UAFS 2019, during the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith’s scholarship competition March 16.

UAFS Student Earns Prestigious Doctoral Academy Fellowship
Peter Phan, a 22-year-old senior at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, has been awarded the Doctoral Academy Fellowship at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Phan, originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, will join Dr. T.K.S. Kumar, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, to conduct a joint project on snake venom proteins. The fellowship also includes a stipend of $12,000 per year for four years as well as a graduate assistantship.
UAFS Scholars Publish Textbook Chapter on STEM Inclusion
research team at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has published a textbook chapter focusing on ways to increase and enhance diversity in STEM fields.  The chapter, titled "Transforming STEM Departments for Inclusion: Creative Innovation, Challenges, Adaptation, and Sustainability at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith," can be found in the textbook: Broadening Participation in STEM: Effective Methods, Practices, and Programs. 
Local High School International Students Visit UAFS
The University of Arkansas Fort Smith hosted an International Students’ Open House last month, inviting exchange students from regional high schools to visit the UAFS campus and engage with the university’s international relations department and international students.
