5K to Support Scholarships this October
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Alumni Association will host a virtual 5K race to support the UAFS Alumni Legacy Scholarship. Registration costs $25, and registrants who sign up by October 1 will receive a free t-shirt commemorating the race.  
UAFS Hosting Interactive Financial Aid Webinars for High School, College students
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Office of Financial Aid is hosting a month-long series of virtual webinars titled “Rock The FAFSA” aiming to help high school students, parents, and families understand the complexities of the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid,) application and paying for college.
JumpStart Arkansas volunteers from UAFS Honor 9/11 Day Through Service
This month members of the UAFS Jumpstart Arkansas AmeriCorps program joined groups across the country to perform patriotic acts of service in honor of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
UAFS Staff Members Turney, Brown, Earn Speakman Awards
The University Staff Council at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, presented Lucille Speakman Excellence Awards to Shanna Turney of Fort Smith and Melissa Brown of Van Buren during the university's semiannual all-staff meeting.
UAFS Fraternity Honors 9/11 First Responders
The members of the Omicron-Tau chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith took time from their studies to give back to the Fort Smith community this month, delivering nearly 100 pizzas to first responders in the River Valley. 
UAFS Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has organized a month-long slate of virtual and on-campus events celebrating Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, Sept. 15 – Oct. 15. The events, which range from traditional food tastings and salsa dancing lessons to open forum discussions and author talks, are hosted by the university’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programming subcommittee, the Hispanic Heritage Month Planning Committee, and the Student Activities Office (SAO). 
UAFS Ranks in Four U.S. News & World Reports Categories
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith earned recognition this week as one of the top public universities in the south according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Colleges rankings, ranking No. 18 in the regional south. The university also earned accolades in the categories of Top Performers in Social Mobility (No. 74) and Regional Colleges in the South (No. 61) and landed among the top business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) based on peer review.
UAFS Hosts Blood Drive, Donors receive COVID-19 Antibody Tests.
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, will host its first blood drive of the Fall semester 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, September 15-16, in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street. All donors will receive a free COVID-19 antibody test. 
UAFS RAWC Launches Wellness Stand
As part of a continuing effort to support students in every aspect of their educational careers, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith launched a new initiative to offer and encourage healthy eating choices. A collaboration between the LionHeart Volunteer Program and the UAFS Recreation and Wellness, the LionHeart Wellness Stand was opened in the Recreation and Wellness Center (RAWC), providing students grab-and-go snacks that promote a healthy lifestyle.
Dave Stevens Lion Pride Pantry Officially Named
This week the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith officially renamed its needs pantry for beloved Dean of Students, Dr. Dave Stevens, honoring the wishes of the UAFS Student Government Association who unanimously passed a resolution to rename the food and necessities pantry the “Dave Stevens Lion Pride Pantry” this April.
