UAFS Chorale Concert to “Light the Night” Oct. 10
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Department of Music will “light the night” when it presents a choral concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 as part of the university’s Season of Entertainment 37.
“Lollapalooza on the Green” to be Held Sept. 30 at UAFS
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, in partnership with the Shane Bailey Memorial Music Society, will host the “Lollapalooza on the Green” event from 1-7 p.m. Sept. 30 on the Campus Green on UAFS campus, featuring a fun afternoon of music and games for all ages.
UAFS Holding “Stuff the Bus” Drive through Sept. 21
When two tragedies struck the southwestern United States – Hurricane Harvey and, on a smaller level, the burning of Cameron High School in Oklahoma – staff members at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith saw an opportunity to help give back to the educators in those areas.
UAFS Slates Constitution Week Events
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has slated a schedule of events from Sept. 18-22 in recognition of Constitution Week, featuring lectures by UAFS professors, a constitutional quiz bowl, and a demonstration of a voting machine.
UAFS Reports Enrollment Increase
An increase in headcount, full-time equivalency and first-time entering freshmen highlighted the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s 11th day enrollment figures for the fall 2017 semester, with numbers pointing towards a foundation for future enrollment growth.
UAFS Alumna Starts Social Media Business
After graduating from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith this spring, Tulsa House was looking for an opportunity to utilize her media communications degree and experience while helping local businesses grow and flourish. She also wanted to have the freedom to make her own executive decisions. So House did something that allowed her to combine all three of these interests – she started her own business.

Robert Pruitt Exhibit on Display at UAFS through Oct. 13
Seventeen drawings by a nationally-recognized and award-winning artist are on display at Windgate Art & Design at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith through Oct. 13, with a reception slated for 5-8 p.m. Sept. 19.
2017-18 CLC Class Announced at UAFS
Twelve students will participate in the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Chancellor’s Leadership Council scholarship program during the 2017-18 school year, a highly competitive program for students demonstrating leadership capabilities and strong academic performance.
UAFS Graduate Heads to Alaska to Teach
Fittingly, it was Tyler William’s high school English teacher who showed Williams the impact he could have as an educator. “Growing up in a poor rural school district, he invested heavily in every student,” Williams said. “He believed in every one of us, no matter how much resistance he met. That was truly an inspiration, and I wanted to be that for someone else.” Now, after graduating from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith this spring, the Hartford native will have the opportunity to do just that after earning a teaching position in Newtok, Alaska, where he will teach math to Yupik, which are indigenous Alaskan natives.
