University of Arkansas - Fort Smith graduate Karen Barrera-Leon of Van Buren has been hired as a financial analyst at ArcBest Corp.
In her position, Barrera-Leon assists with the creation of quarterly financial forecasts and trend projections, as well as well as consolidating the forecasts that come in from various subsidiaries.
“I like working with real, live data instead of the simple examples that come in textbooks,” Barrera-Leon said. “I enjoy being able to contribute in such a direct way to a corporation this large.”
Barrera-Leon said her experiences with the university’s Mentor Connections program, the Center for Student Professional Development, and meetings with her adviser and professors helped prepare her for the job.
She attended Van Buren High School and graduated from UAFS in May. As a UAFS student, she served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer with the College of Business’s Student Leadership Council. She was also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, and volunteered as a mentor and business tutor for incoming freshmen. She received the First Bank Corp. Scholarship while attending UAFS.
“With my education, I know I have changed and drastically improved the quality of life I will be able to give me and my family,” Barrera-Leon said.
