UAFS Expo to Help Students Choose Majors

Majors ExpoThe University of Arkansas - Fort Smith seventh-annual Majors Expo will be held 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center for students and prospective students looking to choose a college major.

With more than 34 bachelor’s degrees, numerous associate degrees and certificates available to UAFS students, the Majors Expo is critical in assisting students who are searching for the right major. Students are given the opportunity to visit with representatives from each major in a fun and interactive atmosphere.

Anna Layne of Fort Smith, interim director of advising and career services, said choosing a major is a big decision for students.

“Choosing a major in college can be overwhelming,” Layne said. “The Majors Expo is a great opportunity to learn information about academic majors and minors, thus helping in choosing a career path.”

Layne said Majors Expos have been incredibly successful in the past, and the events host more than 450 students each year. Layne expects more than 1,000 students to attend this year’s expo.

“Tons of students at UAFS, local high schools, and the Adult Education Center visit the expo each year,” Layne said. “We are expecting another record number of attendees this year.”
