A musical adaptation of one of the best novels of the 20th century will come to Fort Smith for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 23 as part of the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith’s Season of Entertainment 35.
“Ragtime” will be performed at the ArcBest Corporation Performing Arts Center in the Fort Smith Convention Center, located at 55 South 7th St. Tickets are $40 for lower-tier and $37 for upper-tier seating.
Based on the acclaimed novel by E.L. Doctorow, “Ragtime” merges the stories of an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and an aspiring Harlem musician in early 19th-century New York, set to a Tony Award-winning score.
The show and its source material have earned widespread acclaim. Modern Library named “Ragtime” one of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century, and the show has earned 13 Tony Award nominations since its American premiere in 1998.
Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events, hailed the show as well-rounded entertainment.
“‘Ragtime’ is one of the classics of modern American theater. It has the perfect recipe for a great musical – lively music, a gripping story, and stunning performances by the cast,” Jones said. “This is going to be one of our most entertaining shows in recent years.”
The concert is part of Season of Entertainment 35, a yearlong lineup of entertainment sponsored by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith featuring a variety of plays, musicals and symphonic performances. For tickets, contact the UAFS Box Office at 479-788-7300.
