The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith Jazz Band and Jazz Catz will perform a concert alongside a guest artist acclaimed as a “world-class talent” at 7:30 p.m. April 14 at the ArcBest Performing Arts Center, located at 55 S. 7th St.
Tickets for the performance, which is part of the university’s Season of Entertainment 35, are $8. Kathy Kosins will perform as a guest artist during the concert, an award-winning vocalist who has performed since the early eighties and has received acclaim from The Huffington Post, Chicago Tribune, and Village Voice for her talents.
The Jazz Band will play songs including “Love for Sale,” “I’ve Got the World on a String” and “Walk On By,” while the Jazz Catz will perform music by Cole Porter, Bjork, Frank Sinatra, Louie Armstrong and Rod Stewart. Both groups will come together to close the show with Kosins with the finale number “Your Mind Is On Vacation.”
Don Bailey, director of the Jazz Catz, said the groups will put on an exciting show.
“When the Jazz Band and Jazz Catz perform together on stage, it’s always electric,” Bailey said. “Add a world-class singer like Kathy Kosins to the mix, and you’ve got a show that can’t be missed.”
Dr. Christopher Barrick, head of the Department of Music and Theatre, said the concert would reflect the talents of the jazz groups.
“Both the UAFS Jazz Band and Jazz Catz are performing very well right now, and we’ve prepared a terrific concert with an outstanding guest artist,” Barrick said. “I am very proud of these music students, and I’m excited to hear how well they perform on April 14th.”
