Artworks depicting rural landscapes by a local award-winning artist are on display at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith through Aug. 31, with a reception to be held at 5 p.m. July 27.

Julie Mayser’s exhibit, titled “Countryside Vistas,” is featured in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, a collection of more than 30 colorful paintings of tranquil scenes and landscapes. The reception will be held in the west end of the first floor of the campus center, where the exhibit is also on display.

“My work is ever-evolving, leaning towards representational painting with hints of impressionism. My paintings are truly serene, whether depicting the solitude of the countryside, a quiet still life, or a portrait of animal or person,” Mayser said in an artist statement. “They are visual meditations that beckon viewers to discover their own inner calm.”

Mayser’s paintings are in private, public and corporate collections across the United States, as well as private collections in Canada, Europe and Asia. Her artwork has been shown in galleries across Arkansas, in addition to special exhibits such as one recently held at the Philbrook Museum in Tulsa, Okla.

A resident of Greenwood, Mayser studied at the School of Art Institute in Chicago before attending Carl Albert State College and Northeastern State University.

The exhibit hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information about the exhibit, contact the Campus and Community Events office at 479-788-7300.
