The university’s goal is to engage potential donors in new ways, through a month-long fundraising campaign to help combat food insecurity.

Donors can give by visiting the donation webpage, or by texting LIONPANTRY to 41444.

Using the Mobile Cause platform recently added to the UAFS Foundation’s fundraising toolkit giving will be easier – and more modern than ever “This product gives us the capability to engage people in fun new ways that make it easier to donate to special projects at UAFS. Features like text to donate, digital fundraising thermometers, peer to peer fundraising, and user-friendly online forms make this platform a great fit for UAFS,” explained Jasmine Smith, assistant director of Alumni at UAFS.

The goal for the fundraiser is $5,500, which will fund holiday food giveaways for UAFS students, faculty, and staff and their families. The pantry has served more than 80 food sacks to in the first three months of the semester, even with many members of the UAFS community learning and working remotely, and expects to serve more than 100 boxes stocked with traditional Thanksgiving dinner to students heading home for holidays, and more than 50 large winter boxes prior to the December break to help students stay nourished until they return to campus in January.

While donations to the pantry can be made at any increment, suggested donation amounts have been set at $15 to supply a member of the UAFS community with a Turkey, $30 to supply a full Thanksgiving Box, or $50 to supply a student with one of the large winter break boxes. In addition to food distribution, the Lion Pride Pantry has donated 26 backpacks to students and is currently helping facilitate a student-led coat drive, with coats being be distributed to those in need this November.
