Beginning this spring, graduate students at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith who earned bachelor's degrees from the university will be eligible for more than $2,000 in annual scholarships thanks to a new loyalty scholarship announced this week.
The Lion Loyalty Scholarship aims to acknowledge UAFS graduates’ achievements in the classroom and encourage students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree from the university to return for their Master’s degree.
“We know that UAFS offers a highly competitive value to our students,” said Dr. Lee Krehbiel, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “The ability to earn a quality education from highly-skilled faculty at an affordable price is vital to our recruitment, and speaks to our institutional mission to increase access to higher education,”
“With this scholarship, we hope to further that mission by removing the financial barriers often faced by graduate students, and enable more members of our community to advance their careers.”
The Lion Loyalty scholarship will be offered in a tiered format, with full-time graduate students eligible for $1,000 each semester they are registered for 9 credit hours or more.
The scholarship also awards graduate students who are enrolled on a part-time basis $667 per semester if they are taking between 6-8 credit hours per semester and $333 if they are taking 3-5 hours per semester.
Students will automatically be registered for this scholarship when applying for admission to the UAFS graduate studies program, so long as they have completed a bachelor’s degree from UAFS in any field.
Students enrolled in the Master’s in Health Care Administration or Master’s in Education programs may renew the scholarship for three years and will be required to maintain a 3.0-grade point average and earn satisfactory academic progress toward their degree to maintain renewal eligibility.
