Dobbs Hosts Virtual Percussion Studios with Nationally Acclaimed Musicians
As the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith transitioned classes to online delivery for the Spring 2020 semester, Dr. Tommy Dobbs, instructor of music, called in some favors to make the change a little easier – and more fun – for his students. Instead of traditional online course assignments, Dobbs instead presented a slate of industry professionals to host virtual clinics for his Percussion Studio class.

UAFS Professor, Students, Awarded Research Grant to Study Chloroplast DNA

Dr. Vaughn DeCoster has put 30 years of social work experience to paper to provide coping mechanisms and encouragement for the next two weeks of class.

The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith School of Education is pioneering a state-wide program that will expand student opportunities for community service, scholarship, and hands-on learning and impact the state’s youngest learners. Thanks in part to a $103,414 grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, UAFS will be able to support nearly 40 students of any major as they volunteer with the AmeriCorps Jumpstart program, delivering innovative early learning instruction to local preschoolers with a focus on language, literacy, and social-emotional skills. In return, the program offers professional development, monetary incentives, and scholarships for those who volunteer.

On December 14, 2019, Lauren Luginbill crossed the stage in the Stubblefield Center and accepted a Bachelor of Science in biological sciences from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Though the 14-year childhood cancer survivor has faced more than her share of struggles, she used the strength she found through that adversity to excel in every pursuit while at UAFS.

The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith theatre program earned a wealth of accolades at the Arkansas State Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival earlier this month. Held at the University of the Ozarks Seay Theatre, the Theatre@UAFS company and crew for the shows "Side Man" and "Ghost Sonata" took home a whopping 14 awards, including excellence awards in virtually every facet of production and a half-dozen individual actor awards.
