UAFS Announces Schedules for Season of Entertainment, Season at The Blue Lion
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has released the schedules of touring shows and musical performances for Season of Entertainment 38 and the sixth annual Season at The Blue Lion.
UAFS Receives $2 Million from ADHE for Regional Workforce Grants
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has received nearly $2 million in grants from the Arkansas Department of Higher Education for the continuation of the university’s Regional Workforce Grant programs, hailed as “the statewide model for public-private partnerships.”
UAFS to Host Blood Drive July 17
The University of Arkansas Fort Smith will host its summer blood drive from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 17 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center, located at 800 N. 49th Street.
UAFS Remains Most Affordable University in Arkansas
For the second straight year, the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith is the most affordable university in Arkansas.
Pursuing Dreams, One Children’s Book at a Time
Just as University of Arkansas – Fort Smith student Amanda Key of Fort Smith is pursuing her dream of bettering the environment by attending UAFS, she is also trying to help children chase their dreams.  Key recently published a children’s book called “Special Delivery – Future Message for ALL KIDS,” a book that inspires children to pursue their aspirations. Written as a rhyme book from the future, the book details the different kinds of kids needed to help the future world, as well as a list of important tips and reminders that will help children as they grow. Key has published two different editions of the book – a full- color version and a coloring book version. 
Spring 2018 Dean’s List Announced
The University of Arkansas – Fort Smith has released the Dean's List for spring 2018 semester, according to Dr. Georgia Hale, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
UAFS to Host Opioid Summit June 20
A summit to discuss opioid abuse in the Fort Smith community will be held from 12:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. June 20 at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith that will include Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, state representatives, and representatives from local agencies.
UAFS Alumnus Competes on “American Ninja Warrior”
The third time was the charm for Cody Johnston. The Fort Smith native and University of Arkansas – Fort Smith alumnus competed for a third time on the popular television show “American Ninja Warrior,” a competition in which contestants attempt to navigate an obstacle course quicker than their opponents. For the first time, his run made the cut to be televised on the show, which aired June 6.
UAFS Receives $15,000 Big Read Grant from NEA
Thanks to a $15,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith will host an NEA Big Read in Fort Smith this year, a community reading program with activities centered around a select book that includes a visit from the author.
Summer Pell Available for UAFS Students
While Brooke Arnold of Hackett only had two classes left to graduate from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith after this spring semester, she began looking for a way to earn those credits without having to complete another 16-week semester as a working mother. Thanks to a change in Pell Grants this year that allow students additional grant monies for summer courses, she won’t have to.

Tradition is important to Kaley Underwood. It’s part of the reason she decided to attend the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, following in the footsteps of her father and aunt, both of whom attended the university when it was Westark Community College. But Underwood isn’t only continuing traditions in her own family. She’s also helping continue traditions at UAFS by serving as the director of Cub Camp for 2018, a three-day camp for incoming UAFS freshmen hosted by upperclassmen that helps ease the transition from high school to college.

For Dave Robertson, there’s two ways of looking at economic development. “One is bringing in new business, but the other aspect of it is supporting existing businesses,” Robertson said. “Eighty to ninety percent of all US businesses are considered a family business. When you realize how significant that number is, and you look at the challenges that they face that are kind of unique, you can see where there’s an opportunity to support them and keep them strong.” Helping local family businesses address those challenges was a major reason Robertson took over as director of the Family Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith nine years ago, a program that grows the economy of the greater Fort Smith region by helping local family businesses.

For the last seven years, the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps has been a part of cadet Michael Dotson’s life. He participated in it while at Northside High School and continued into the ROTC program at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. On Jan. 4, Dotson’s time with the ROTC program came to an end when he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army during a ceremony held at Faith United Methodist Church.
