CBPD Offers Learning Opportunities

CBPD offers it all in 12 classes and workshops slated for March and April at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith -- leadership development, goal setting, industrial motor controls and Microsoft software programs.

 

These professional development opportunities, which are available through the Center for Business and Professional Development, are scheduled with a variety of timetables, some for only a few hours and some spanning half days for several weeks. March 1 is the date for the first March CBPD workshop.

 

On the March and April schedule are:

 

March 1: “Leadership Star Power,” 8-noon, Friday, Flanders Business Center, room 114, $59.

 

March 6 & 13: “Beginning Microsoft Word 2010,” 8 a.m.-noon, Wednesdays, Business and Industrial Institute, room 115, $129.

 

March 12-May 7: “Industrial Motor Control Fundamentals,” 1-4 p.m., Tuesdays, Echols Building, room 201, $349.

 

March 19: “Goals & Goal Setting,” 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $59.

 

March 26: “Results-Oriented Communication,” 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $59.

 

March 27: “Manage Your Time with Microsoft Outlook,” 8 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Business and Industrial Institute, room 115, $59.

 

April 2: “Creating a Culture of Customer Service,” 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $59.

 

April 5 & 12: “Beginning Microsoft Access 2010,” 8 a.m.-noon, Fridays, Business and Industrial Institute, room 115, $129.

 

April 10 & 17: “Beginning Microsoft Excel 2010,” 8 a.m.-noon, Wednesdays, Business and Industrial Institute, room 115, $129.

 

April 16: “Emotional intelligence,” 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $59.

 

April 23: “Develop Positive Assertiveness,” 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $59.

 

April 30: “What’s My Selling Style?” from 8-11 a.m., Tuesday, Flanders Business Center, room 110, $69.

 

Instructors are Dr. Micki Voelkel of Van Buren; Kim Gordon and Jack Danciu of Fort Smith and Cameron McKinney of Roland, Okla.

 

Voelkel, an associate master technical instructor in the CBPD, teaches the “Leadership Star Power,” “Manage Your Time with Microsoft Outlook” and “Beginning Microsoft Access 2010” classes. Voelkel has extensive experience in the areas of communication, personal effectiveness and computer applications. She is a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist instructor and has a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and a master's degree and a doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

 

Gordon, a senior business consultant and management instructor with the CBPD since December 2006, will teach the “Goals & Goal Setting,” “Results-Oriented Communication,” “Creating a Culture of Customer Service,” “Emotional Intelligence,” “Develop Positive Assertiveness” and “What’s My Selling Style?” classes. As a consultant, she meets with community leaders to help them craft and execute training and development programs. Her background includes more than 20 years in corporate America, holding leadership roles in human resources as well as sales. She has a bachelor’s degree in organizational management and a master’s degree in leadership and ethics from John Brown University.

 

Danciu, who has taught for UAFS since 2001 and has more than 20 years of experience in the computer industry, teaches the “Beginning Microsoft Word 2010” and “Beginning Microsoft Excel 2010” classes. Danciu is the owner of Danciu & Associates Computer Consulting. He has a bachelor’s degree with a double major in economics and management from Saint Joseph’s College - Calumet Campus, Indiana, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

 

McKinney, who has been with the CBPD since July 2012, will teach the “Industrial Motor Control Fundamentals” class. He has over 10 years of experience as an industrial electronic technician, PLC programmer and control engineer.  He has an associate degree in industrial maintenance and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree, both from Arkansas State University. He also holds several certifications from Rockwell Automation and an industrial electrician license from the state of Arkansas.

 

In addition to classes and workshops offered for professional development, the Center for Business and Professional Development at UAFS also provides regional business with customized training and consulting to meet company-specific requirements and on-site training to fit identified employee needs.
