13 Compete for Miss UAFS

Thirteen contestants will take the stage March 2 as they vie for the title of Miss UAFS 2013.


The pageant begins at 7 p.m. at the Arkansas Best Performing Arts Center at the Fort Smith Convention Center. Miss UAFS is a preliminary to the Miss Arkansas and Miss America scholarship programs.


Tickets are $10 and are available at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Box Office in the Smith-Pendergraft campus Center or by calling 479-788-7300. Tickets are also available online atwww.ticketsage.com/uafs.


“We have thirteen amazing and very diverse young women competing this year,” said Sherry Card of Fort Smith, director of campus and community events. “They are all hard-working students who have entered the pageant for the chance to win the university scholarships and cash awards, but they are also excited about the opportunity to hone their interview skills and showcase their talents to the judges and the community. There will be everything from hula hooping to cow roping this year. The audience is sure to be entertained.”


Additional entertainment will be provided by the UAFS Athletic Band and the Miss UAFS Singers, which includes former Miss UAFS contestants and community members. Performances will also be given by reigning Miss UAFS, Savannah Valentine of Alma, Miss Arkansas Sloane Roberts of Rison, Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton of Oklahoma City, Okla., and the UAFS Vocal Jazz Catz, as well as Dance est Joie of Grayce DeWitt Dance Studio.

  • Taylor Kaitlyn Baker, 21, of Fort Smith, daughter of Melissa Morse of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Mike Baker of Greenbrier.


  • Dalissa Barentine, 19, of Rudy, daughter of Angela Lewis of Rudy and Toby Barentine of New Orleans, La.


  • Cristina Castorena, 22, of Fort Smith, daughter of Ismel and Irma Castorena of Fort Smith.


  • Nancy Guillen, 22, of Fort Smith, daughter of Robert Guillen of Van Buren and Celina Rodriguez of Pasadena, Calif.


  • Carter Alexandra Honea, 21, of Fort Smith, daughter of Mike and Kim Honea of Fort Smith.


  • Lydia Humphrey, 20, of Ozark, daughter of Chuck and Diane Humphrey of Ozark.


  • Makayla Jackson, 19, of Muldrow, Okla., daughter of Chris and Cyndi Jackson of Muldrow, Okla.


  • Tanya Martin, 22, of Muldrow, Okla., daughter of Doug and Karla Martin of Muldrow, Okla.


  • Amanda Shook, 23, of Greenwood, daughter of Kenneth and Stephanie Shook of Greenwood.


  • Taylor Smith, 20, of Mansfield, daughter of Michael and Tina Smith of Mansfield.


  • Kellie Elizabeth Taylor, 20, of Poteau, Okla., daughter of Danny and Laura Taylor of Poteau, Okla.


  • Kalyn Renae Tounzen, 18, of Van Buren, daughter of Mike and Jeri Tounzen of Van Buren.


  • Linda Vichith, 18, of Fort Smith, daughter of Thuy Lan Nguyen and Le Chi Thach of Fort Smith.


The pageant contestants will be joined on stage by the 24 girls participating in this year’s Princess Program, a non-competitive program that allows girls ages 5-10 to participate in the pageant-related events. Daren Bobb from KFSM-TV will emcee this year’s event. Stacey Jones of Fort Smith, associate vice chancellor of campus and community events, directs the Miss UAFS pageant and is a producer for the Miss Arkansas pageant.
