VH1 Save the Music Foundation will benefit from proceeds from the ninth annual Battle of the Bands at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, scheduled for 7 p.m. March 12 in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center.
Admission is free for students with a valid Lion’s identification card, and general admission is $2 for non-students, according to Stephanie London of Fort Smith, student activities event coordinator.
“We typically have seven to nine bands,” London said. “We’ve had all types of music from acoustic, rock, punk, country and folk.”
Entertainment between bands will be the local comedy improv group “Naturally Improv-able.”
“Between the comedy and the music, there’s something for everyone,” London said.
Brianna Hicks of Greenwood, student coordinator for the Campus Activities Board which is hosting the event, said Battle of the Bands is a great experience for the whole family.
“It will be a fun atmosphere with great music and would make an awesome night out for family and friends,” Hicks said. “It’s a great chance to discover new artists in our area and hear some new music.”
Bands will play for a panel of judges with prizes to include $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $75 for audience favorite.
The VH1 Save the Music Foundation’s core mission is to restore instrumental music education programs, ensuring that every child has access to a complete education that includes the benefits of music instruction.
