For three nights in April, students of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith’s theatre program will direct and perform the program’s annual “One-Act Showcase,” a variety show of short productions.
The showcase will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 23-25 in the Breedlove Auditorium, and it is free and open to the public.
Each performance features five 15-minute shows, running the gambit from comedies like “ManDate” -- a skit about two husbands being set up on a date by their wives -- to dramas like “‘Night Mother,” which chronicles a young girl’s struggles with suicidal thoughts.
Bob Stevenson, director of Theatre@UAFS, said the theatre faculty members provide advice and resources but let the students take the helm for the production of the program.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to take over complete control of a production. They are directed by students, performed by students, and designed and built by students,” Stevenson said. “There are a total of eight shows, and five of them are presented each night, meaning you can see new material by attending on two separate nights.”
Students participating in the productions are:
Alma: Cody Walls.
