The Spanish literary magazine “Azahares” sponsored by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith is calling for submissions for its spring 2015 issue, and its submission deadline is Jan. 16.
The magazine, which will be published for the eighth time this spring, features work by Latino writers and artists from Fort Smith, the United States, and around the world.
The magazine receives more than 100 submissions each year, and an editorial board comprised of UAFS faculty members will employ a blind-selection process to decide which submissions to accept. Members of the editorial board are Dr. Mary Sobhani, Dr. Brenda Ross, Madeline Martinez, Dr. Rosario Nolasco-Schultheiss, Dr. Francesco Tarelli and Dr. Arthur Wendorf.
Preference is given to Spanish-language written submissions or works centered around a Spanish-related theme, and artwork and photography must reflect some facet of Spanish culture.
Poems must be no longer than 100 lines and prose no longer than 3,500 words. All submissions must be saved as a .doc or .docx file. Authors must submit a 60-word biography written in Spanish and in third person, saved as a Microsoft Word document. Color and black-and-white artwork and photography are accepted in digital format only and must be submitted as a .jpg file.
Once published, the issue will be available free of charge in the Boreham Library at UAFS and the Fort Smith Public Library. Readers can also access past issues of “Azahares” on the UAFS website.
Only online submissions are accepted. To submit a work, go to the Azahares website, http://uafs.edu/academics/azahares-spanish-language-creative-literary-magazine, and follow the prompts, or search the UAFS website using keyword “Azahares.”
