Workshop Set for High School Counselors

More than 100 counselors from area high schools will meet Sept. 4 on the campus of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith with representatives from approximately 50 colleges and universities from throughout Arkansas.

Mark Lloyd of Fort Smith, director of admissions at UAFS, said the event is sponsored by the Arkansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ArkACRAO).

“We are very excited to host this event on our campus,” he said. “These articulation programs are important because they provide an opportunity for the colleges and universities to come together with the high schools before the start of the college fairs and visits. This gives us time to share information, give updates and reconnect with one another.”

The event, slated for 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., will give counselors an opportunity to receive information on the various institutions from representatives of the colleges and universities. The higher education institutions will also provide updates on new programs, facilities and initiatives.

“This information sharing and networking is beneficial for all who attend,” said Lloyd.

Scheduled to speak in the 10:15 a.m. session are Ron Hudson of Arkansas State University - Beebe, articulation workshop chair; Regina Wade-Carter of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, ArkACRAO president; Dr. Paul B. Beran, UAFS chancellor; and Mary Whiting, University of Arkansas at Monticello, ArkACRAO’s clearinghouse coordinator, who arranges the dates and times for all of the college fairs in the state. A financial aid update is also on the agenda.
