Brooms, garbage cans and other items will become percussion instruments when “Stomp” is performed at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 9 in the ArcBest Corp. Performing Arts Center, part of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith’s Season of Entertainment 34.
The international percussion sensation, which has run for more than 20 years, features musicians performing unique percussion numbers accompanied by dance routines.
The show has received rave reviews in addition to numerous awards. The New York Times said “Stomp is as crisp and exuberant as if it had opened yesterday,” The San Francisco Chronicle said the show “has a beat that just won’t quit,” and the Chicago Tribune said it is “a phenomenal show.”
Stacey Jones of Fort Smith, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events, lauded the show’s intensity.
“‘Stomp’ is very high energy and very entertaining. It’s totally different from anything you’ve seen on stage,” Jones said. “The show has been around for decades, but it’s never played here, so this is an opportunity for people to see it in their own backyard.”
“Stomp” is part of Season of Entertainment 34, a year-long lineup of entertainment sponsored by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith featuring a variety of plays, musicals and symphonic performances.
Tickets for the 3 p.m. show are $30 and are general admission. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance are $40 for first-tier seating and $37 for second-tier. To purchase tickets, call the UAFS Box Office at 479-788-7300 or visit http://uafs.universitytickets.com.
