Dr. Joshua Packwood, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at UAFS, grew up in Ecuador, South America as a missionary kid. Upon coming to the United States, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, studying recreation and health. After college, he worked as a tour guide in Costa Rica for two years. He later went on to complete a master’s degree in Intercultural Studies, emphasizing world religions, from Southeastern College of Wake Forest in North Carolina.


During this time, Dr. Packwood developed an interest in the history of philosophy. With this interest, he moved back to Arkansas and completed both a master’s and a doctorate in philosophy at the University of Arkansas. He specializes in ancient Greek philosophy and Neoplatonism, while also being competent in the history of philosophy, ethics, world religions, comparative philosophy, and mysticism. Dr. Packwood is currently working on a book on global philosophy.
