Dr. Mary Shepard is an Assistant Professor of Art History and Humanities at UAFS. She received her A.B. degree with Honors from Grinnell College, an M.A. in Art History from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in medieval art history from Columbia University in the City of New York. Prior to teaching, she enjoyed a long tenure at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.


A specialist in medieval stained-glass windows, she is currently pursuing two book projects: one on the French history painter, Alexandre Lenoir and his interpretation of medieval art in the Museum of French Monuments, which he founded during the French Revolution, and the second on the early 16th-century stained-glass program of the parish church of St. Michael-le-Belfry in York (England).
